Gubernatis deftly combines science fiction and supernatural into one captivating story: one part Star Trek and one part Dresden Files. The characters are well written and very human; the story is fast, fun, and interesting. – James P

As someone who typically likes his sci-fi and fantasy neatly categorized, I was initially perplexed by the mash-up presented here. Think Event Horizon and your favorite magic-heavy fantasy series (e.g. Terry Brooks’ Shannara series) with a side of zombies. It sounds like a mess, but Gubernatis is remarkably adept at sampling diverse traditions and weaving their best bits into a story of his own. – Student
