Local Brief Biography (  words)

Kevin Gubernatis lives with his creative wife/editor and their neurotic cat in St. Joseph, Missouri. He has been making up stories since he was a small child, and finally put pen to paper to share the tale of The White Wolf and The Darkness.

He moved to St. Joseph in August of 2011 and immediately fell in love with the city.  From the rich and vast history to some of the most beautiful architecture and all of the delicious local eateries, particularly the Barbosa’s Castillo (who doesn’t love a castle?), he found more than enough to enjoy.

Originally from the East coast, Kevin found the friendly and welcoming nature of this Midwestern town to be overwhelming. The kindness of people here in St. Joe helped form the hopeful future of humanity in his Soul Star Galaxy.

His inspirations for writing are varied and many — much-loved authors include R. A. Salvatore, George R.R. Martin, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Elizabeth Boyer, Ransom Prestridge and TJ Rourke — but he’d say he’s generally a big nerd and loves a good story. His two favorite pastimes are eating and talking, preferably together and with people he enjoys, though not technically at the same time (that gets messy).

Book Introduction

The White Wolf and The Darkness is an exciting debut novel from up and coming author Kevin Gubernatis.  It’s an adult science fiction/fantasy/horror, set a thousand years into the future, when magic fuels all technology and humankind has spread out amongst the stars.  The Covenant of Earth Nations has lost contact with Dark Star Station, a deep space research facility orbiting a primordial black hole, and has sent Asala, a magician and warrior along with a team of COEN Corps commandos to the station to find out what’s wrong.  It bears passing similarities to other space epics like Star Wars, in that the supernatural and the scientific live together in harmony and that the heart of the story is full of action and characters are full of thoughtful creativity.  The Soul Star Galaxy is a class of its own, combining supernatural and occult themes with a dark atmospheric setting, along with a hopeful and confident look at the future, crafting a vast and inspiring universe of adventure and wonder.

Book Synopsis

Short Description

Asala and her team of specialist commandos are prepared for any situation involving entities both supernatural and mundane. They’ve been sent to check on the silent Dark Star research station. A presence waits in the shadows, hungry and curious. Can Asala confront this terror and keep her team alive, or will she and all those in her charge fall victim to….The Darkness?

Extended Description

The White Wolf and The Darkness takes place in the future — roughly a thousand years into our future, to be a little more precise. Humanity has long ago spread out into the stars and magic was the fuel for that expansion. Magic runs everything, from the large starships that ferry people through the void of space, to the smallest of hand-held lights.

The Covenant Of Earth Nations, Earth’s governing body, has lost contact with a deep space research station orbiting a black hole known as the Dark Star. COEN sends a team of specialist commandos to discover the reason for this communications blackout. Along with these specialists, they send a young magician, Asala — a practitioner of ritualism fresh out of her studies at the School of Magic and Spiritual Comprehension. She and her commandos are prepared for any situation involving entities both supernatural and mundane. At least they think they are. Little do the COEN Corps commandos and their magician know that what awaits them aboard the Dark Star is far beyond anything ever experienced.

A presence waits in the shadows, hungry and curious. Can Asala confront this terror and keep her commandos alive, or will she and all those in her charge fall victim to….The Darkness?
